How to Mount Handles on Cabinets with Existing Holes

1. Measure Your Old Handles

Grab a tape measure, ruler, or measuring tape and open one of the kitchen drawers. Measure the distance between the center of both screw holes. The distance between the screw holes is called the C/C measurement, which stands for center-to-center and is always written in millimeters.

The most common C/C measurements are 64, 96, 128, and 160 mm, but we have several different C/C measurements, so you'll find a handle that fits your kitchen or furniture. If you measure and get a distance of 98 mm, it's a C/C measurement of 96 mm that you have—either the hole has been drilled slightly askew or your measurement is a bit off. A few millimeters here or there won't make a big difference. Do you want a longer handle than the ones you currently have? We have a solution for that too. For instance, if you have a C/C measurement of 96 mm but want a handle with a C/C of 128 mm, you can buy a handle with a backplate that covers the old holes.

2. Unscrew a handle from the kitchen cabinets

Before selecting new, nice handles, we recommend checking for any damages or color differences behind the old handles. If there are marks to consider, we recommend choosing a handle that covers the damages.

By measuring the extent of any marks left on the door, you have a guideline when selecting new handles, with the same diameter at the base as your current handle or one with a slightly larger base for a perfect result.

3. Find New Handles with the Same Measurements

Now comes the most enjoyable step - finding new handles! Once you've determined the C/C measurement and assessed the condition of your doors, their holes, and know what you're looking for, navigate through the menu and select handles. There, you'll find a wide range of handles in various models, lengths, and styles, all of high quality and available in different price ranges. With over 1000 handle models, you can easily filter based on C/C measurements, style, or color.

4. Install the New Handles

Start by removing the old handles and cleaning the area with a cloth where the old handles were placed. Use a screwdriver with the right screw head when installing the handles. The screws included with the handles are M4 screws with a combination slot as the screw head, meaning both a Phillips and a flat screwdriver can be used. We recommend using a screwdriver to install the handles to avoid damaging the threads or drawer and door fronts.

Since you don't have any existing holes, the possibilities are endless!

Begin by deciding on the type of handle you want. We have various handles to choose from, traditional classic ones and modern ones. Choose a handle that suits your style and complements the feeling you want to create. Feel free to mix different lengths of handles to bring vibrancy and a sense of a well-thought-out kitchen.

2. Determine Handle Placement

Do you want the handles horizontally or vertically? In the middle of the drawer, on the right, or left?

There are various ways to install your new handles. There's no strict rule about placing all handles x cm from the edge of the drawer or door. It's your preference that decides where you want your new handles.

3. Measure and Drill Your New Holes

To ensure that all handles are placed at the same distance on all doors, we recommend using a drilling template.

Installation of Handles with Through Screws on Drawers & Cabinets

Start by measuring the middle of the drawers and make a mark to have it as a reference point.

Use the drilling template and a pencil to mark where you want the holes. Our tip is to use masking tape on the drawer to easily make the marking and reduce the risk of the front surface becoming rough. It's advisable to check with a ruler that the distance you want is accurate; place the handle to ensure it is where you want your new handles. Use a nail and a hammer to make a light marking on the door.

Prepare a drill bit that is the same size as the screw (our standard screw is M4). Then drill straight through the masking tape and the marking on the door.

Finally, easily mount your new handles using two screws and a screwdriver.

Mounting Profile Handles with Wood Screws

Here, it's important to note that profile handles are mounted from the inside of the drawer or door, and the screws should not go through.

Start by marking the center of the drawer, using it as a reference point. Place the handle on the edge of the drawer and use the screw holes of the profile handle to mark the height at which it should be installed. It's helpful to use masking tape here to create a clean drill hole without fraying the door/drawer front.

Then, double-check with the drilling template and start from the center mark to ensure that the handles are centered on the drawer. Make marks on the inside of the drawer using a nail and a hammer.

Use the drill and an appropriate bit slightly smaller than the wood screw. Place the screw on the drawer/door and double-check that it's not too long; if it is, there's a risk it might show on the front of the door. Pre-drill a few millimeters into the door to easily grip the wood screw.

Position the profile handle in the desired place, use the wood screw and a screwdriver, and mount your new profile handles!

Mounting of Cup Handles

Most of our cup handles are installed using through screws from the inside. It's common for cup handles to have decorative screws visible on the front, but to mount the handle, screws are used from the inside of the door/drawer.

Start by marking the center of the drawers, using it as a reference point. Then, measure the distance between the screw holes (the C/C measurement).

Next, determine at what height you want the cup handle. Make a mark on the inside of the cup handle where you feel the attachment points are. Then, use the C/C measurement of the handle when making the next hole.

Many of our cup handles are mounted with screw holes placed on the inner edge of the cup handle.

If you are mounting the cup handle at the same height on all drawers and doors, we recommend using the holes you've just drilled as a reference—then use a ruler to get the exact measurement from the edge of the drawer. Alternatively, hang the drilling template on the drawer, mark where the holes are, and use a marker to note these positions on the drilling template for easy identification of where to drill the remaining holes.
